Never underestimate how important your nails are to your body. They both protect and support your fingers and toes, and both toenail and fingernails also act a very good barometer of your state of health at any moment. Onychomycosis, or nail fungus, can be very difficult to get rid of, but not impossibly so. There was a time when the available methods for getting rid of it were not too plentiful but luckily that's not the case today.

A lot of other disorders [Psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and some bacterial infections] cause nail problems that look just like nail fungus, so you need your doctor to verify if it is indeed a fungal infection by examining scrapings from your nails and submitting these samples to a lab to be cultured.

The moment you are sure that it's actually a fungal infection, your health specialist will advise you on a particular course of treatment, based on how advanced the infection is, your current lifestyle and how drastic the measures you are ready to take. Another consideration could be budget issues.
